{"id":7475,"date":"2018-11-26T16:56:46","date_gmt":"2018-11-26T23:56:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cathypark.net\/blog\/?page_id=7475"},"modified":"2018-11-30T12:36:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-30T19:36:24","slug":"why-we-homeschool","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cathypark.net\/blog\/why-we-homeschool\/","title":{"rendered":"Why we Homeschool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cathypark.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/17155899_10211802174067741_346441247486871612_n.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7476 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cathypark.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/17155899_10211802174067741_346441247486871612_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"654\" height=\"436\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do we homeschool?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Are we one of \u201cthose\u201d families?\u00a0 Is it faith?\u00a0 Are we just crazy?\u00a0 Let me give you a little backstory\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>While our dream was never to homeschool, we would never change it for the world! \u00a0We were living near Denver at the time&#8230;there were a lot of kiddos and not a whole lot of funding for education.\u00a0 My older two kiddos did attend public school early on but wasn\u2019t until Madison was in the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> grade that our concerns became more urgent.\u00a0 She was coming home with papers with failing grades.\u00a0 When I asked her what was going on\u2026.like any good mom\u2026.she said she wasn\u2019t ever taught!\u00a0 Not taught???\u00a0 I did question her teacher and she said she was doing her best.\u00a0 They had 30+ students in her class and Madison wasn\u2019t ahead nor behind so she got to sit and read while the other challenging students were being instructed.\u00a0 She continually came home bored and hating school!\u00a0 This was not my child.\u00a0 Also, they were on year-round schooling to help with the over population and they were looking to transition to a more traditional schedule.\u00a0 What did this mean?\u00a0 They were going to have more students per class.\u00a0 So my mediocre child was going to continue to be bored!\u00a0 Josh was also in kindergarten at this time.\u00a0 When talking with his teacher, she told me I should Homeschool!\u00a0 HOMESCHOOL?\u00a0 Nope!\u00a0 Not me\u2026.I barely could get through homework!\u00a0 We prayed and prayed and God led me to some pretty awesome people who supported my every freak out\u2026.my questions\u2026.my lack of faith\u2026.my beautiful messy days!\u00a0 We proceeded to move several times due to loss of a job and the death of John\u2019s brother.\u00a0 Homeschooling was our constant.\u00a0 It gave us a reason to spend time together&#8230;.be each others friend in the midst of change.<\/p>\n<p>Homeschooling was a blessing in this time and I am sure it kept our kids from falling apart.\u00a0 We have also learned our kids are actually pretty cool people!\u00a0 It seems we live in a society where \u201ckids will be kids\u201d or that generation or (____________) you fill in the phrase.\u00a0 Kids are actually very intelligent, you just need to take time to get to know them.\u00a0 Now I get to see the Ah Ha moments in their learning.\u00a0 It makes the hair-pulling days\u2019 worth it!\u00a0 I never really thought about homeschooling\u2026.and would never change it for anything!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My kids have an amazing relationship.\u00a0 One of which I am sure wouldn\u2019t have been possible without our time together.\u00a0 Yes they fight but they also have a lot of fun together!\u00a0 I get the question about socialization\u2026..all\u2026.the\u2026.time!\u00a0 I believe if you can get along with your siblings, you can get along with anyone!\u00a0 Besides our home life and church, our kids are very involved in sports.\u00a0 They know many children their age and they socialize just fine&#8230;probably better than most!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning at their own pace!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homeschooling has allowed us to meet our children at their level\u2026.what ever that is!\u00a0 My older daughter was very advanced.\u00a0 She graduated early and was very independent in education.\u00a0 Our younger three weren\u2019t like this.\u00a0 Homeschooling has allowed us to not fit them into a mold!\u00a0 We could meet them where they were at, not where a milestone said they should be.\u00a0 We also realized early on that our younger three didn\u2019t learn like other kids.\u00a0 Auditory processing and dyslexia became a very researched topics in our home.\u00a0 Finding out how they learn and how we could change our daily studies to allow them to understand was challenging!\u00a0 And what works with one, doesn\u2019t with the others.\u00a0 They also are in different levels within their grade!\u00a0 Mastering the materials vs just marking off lessons is very important to us.\u00a0 We also can let the kids learn what every they want!\u00a0 Yes, we still do the subjects they hate but we can help point out those subjects\u2019 relationship with in the subjects they do love!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do you homeschool?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would love to hear your story.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Embracing-Providence-723522997693319\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drop a comment and let us know.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we homeschool?\u00a0 Are we one of \u201cthose\u201d families?\u00a0 Is it faith?\u00a0 Are we just crazy?\u00a0 Let me give you a little backstory\u2026..
