First off, beloved readers please do not see this as a political post, but rather a “heart of the matter” post. After visiting FaceBook to day and seeing what the world thinks of our election last night, I would like to address a few of the things I saw.
“What am I going to tell my kids in the morning?”
“What will I tell my daughter?”
“Life as we know it is over!”
Let’s start with, “What am I going to tell my kids in the morning?” First, radical thought…The Truth?!?! Take this time to explain. Take your feelings out of this picture. Right now, most kiddos get their opinions by what their parents believe. You have the power to help shape the way they react to big things. Think about what is important to them right now. Maybe it is toddler who is mad because they were given milk and not juice, or maybe a teenager who got a bad grade on a test or, better yet, your daughter just broke up with their boyfriend. We are teaching them it is ok to walk out on school. Disrespect authority because they do not see it the way they do. Or to set houses on fire…all because we have shown them this is what we do as adults when things get hard or we disagree. Take this time and show them how to react to by showing them grace, respect, and kindness. This could shape how they deal with “their” big things.
“What will I tell my daughter?” Um, I am not really sure how to even answer this one? A man was elected as our 45th President last night?!?! Do they need to know the details? Just because it is on the internet or your good friend posted it, isn’t always truth. Whether we disagree or not, teach them how to respect authority even if that authority has made poor choices in their past. You do not have to like him as a person but we are called to respect our authority! Maybe show them how to start to pray for the heart of our new team, pray for guidance and wisdom, and for God to intervene for them.
“Life as we know it is over.” Really? We put all the faith into a man? Do you think he has enough power to destroy YOUR life? Trump is NOT the problem here if you accept this! This is a full-on heart issue. I am guessing that if we really believe our life is really over, it didn’t matter who was placed into office. Remember who your hope is found in.
There were many more heated questions. There were a lot of f-bombs I care to read in a lifetime. I really think we need to do a heart check at this point. Watch your actions and words, regardless of sides, little eyes are watching you. You gloat, you teach your kids to be sore losers. You act out in anger, you are teaching your kiddos how to respond in anger. You get on your knees, you will teach your kiddos how to be powerful leaders. How about we not place labels on our kids they do not deserve! Don’t tell them how the world sees them, tell them how God sees them! Don’t play the victim card. We need to get back on our knees and pray for President Elect Trump and his staff. If we turned all the negativity energy on social media into prayer, think of how powerful that would be!
